A Marvelous Escape

A serious railway mishap was narrowly avoided at the South Western Station on Friday afternoon, when Porter Pearce had a marvelous escape. Engaged in conveying a trolley load of luggage from one platform to another he did not notice the approach of the train from Portsmouth, which was running in just after four o’clock, and how narrowly he escaped may be gathered from the fact that the engine caught the trolley broadside on, and literally hit the wood in it to splinters. Luggage, clothing, letters, and all the rest, were scattered in all directions. Happily Pearce escaped without even a shaking.
