Serious Railway Accident

A serious accident occurred at the L & SWR station early on Wednesday morning, an engine driver, named Burnett, of 63, Meadow Road, being accidentally knocked down by an engine. It appears that the unfortunate man had left his own engine in a siding and was crossing the rails to another siding but failed to observe an engine coming towards him. He was knocked down and although the locomotive did not pass over him, he was rolled under it and sustained serious injuries. He was conveyed to the Infirmary on a stretcher, and it was found that his spine was badly hurt. On enquiry at the Infirmary this (Friday) morning our representative was informed that Burnett is still in a critical condition, but is doing as well as can be expected.
