1905 August 25th Stockbridge – Railway Fatality

A fatal accident occurred at Park Crossing, Kings Somborne, on the Andover Line, between Horsebridge and Stockbridge, on Sunday evening, the victim being William Phillips, an elderly man, of How Park Farm, King Somborne. He assisted his brother in the farm work, and about 5.30 in the afternoon was driving some cows to the meadows. He waited for an ordinary train to pass the crossing, and then opened the gates, when a goods train coming along from the Stockbridge direction, knocked him down. He was left clear of the metals but sustained injury to the back of the head and to his left temple, while several ribs were fractured. He succumbed two hours later. One cow was cut to pieces and another injured.
