1902 March 28th         A Well Known Guard Killed

News has reached Salisbury of the accidental death of Mr John Osmond, a well known guard in the service of the London and South Western Railway Company. His features are familiar to many people owing to the fact that in a popular picture of the departure of a troop train from Aldershot, Mr Osmond’s tall remarkable figure is conspicuous. It appears that on Wednesday evening when trying to get into his van on a moving train he fell under the wheels and was so terribly injured that he died before he could be taken to Aldershot Hospital. He had been in the Company’s service over thirty years.
