Jeffery, Thomas

Jeffery, Thomas         1917 December 14th

An inquest was held by the City Coroner (Mr A M Wilson) in the Council Chamber on Monday evening, to enquire into the death of a little boy who was found dead in bed on Saturday by his mother, Mrs Blanche Jeffery, of 14, Scot’s Lane, the wife of a stage manager.

Mr George Bath was appointed foreman of the jury.

Mrs Jeffery said her son was three years old and had been in delicate health since he had had the measles two years ago. On Thursday he was brought home from school because he was unwell. As he did not get better on Friday she sent for a doctor, but the child died in the course of Saturday morning.

Dr James Gordon attributed the death to internal obstructions. He said he could not have done anything had he been called earlier.

A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
