The same afternoon the body of a single man named John Coniam, aged 39, son of Charles Coniam, basket-maker, Duke-street, was found in the river Biss. It appears that the deceased lived at home with his father, and was a very quiet, steady, industrious man. He was at times rather strange in his manner, but nothing to call for any particular notice. He was last seen alive by his family on Good Friday at supper.

Inquests were held on Monday by Mr F T Sylvester, coroner.
