Shergold, Joseph 1883 March 10th Farley
On Monday, the County Coroner held an inquest at Farley on the body of an aged man named Joseph Shergold, who had been found dead in his bed. The old man lived in his cottage by himself; and on Thursday evening he was seen at the baker’s shop apparently in good health. Since that, however, he had not been seen alive, and two neighbours being suspicious, on Sunday morning entered his cottage, and on going upstairs found him lying in his bed dead.
Dr Gordon, of Salisbury, was sent for, and he arrived as soon as was possible. He now gave it as his opinion that he died from natural causes, most probably heart disease. The jury returned a verdict to that effect. It is thought in the village that he had been dead since Thursday when he was last seen alive.
