Rebbeck, Frederick 1882 December 2nd Frome
On Tuesday, Dr Wybrants, coroner, held an inquest at the Bell inn, on the body of F J Rebbeck, aged three years, son of John Rebbeck, of the Mint. It appeared that early on Saturday morning a lighted benzoline lamp was placed outside the children’s room on a landing to light the elder children downstairs. Shortly after deceased was heard to scream and his nightdress was found in flames. It is supposed he tried to pick up the lamp.
Mr J F Parsons, surgeon, said the child was not seriously burnt, but the cause of death was inflammation of the membrane of the brain. The coroner and jury exonerated the parents from blame, and a verdict of accidental death was returned.
FreeBMD gives Frederick James Rebbeck aged 2 – ED.
