Sparey, James

Sparey, James          1869 March 27th           Chilmark

An inquest was held here on Saturday last, before R M Wilson, Esq., on the body of James Sparey, a man between 70 and 80 years old. James Macey, a next door neighbour, saw the deceased alive and well on Sunday, and on Wednesday, wondering that he had not seen him since, went to his door and found it locked. On looking through the window he saw the old man lying “a little sideways on his back in bed” apparently dead. The door was burst open, and Mr Young, surgeon of Hindon, was sent for, but medical aid was of no avail. The old man had been paralysed, and death was attributed to serious apoplexy. A verdict of “Died from the Visitation of God” was accordingly returned.
