Stevens, John

Stevens, John               1868 April 18th

On Wednesday afternoon last, an elderly man, named John Stevens, 68, was sent with another man from Kingston farm to Salisbury, with a load of pigs, and to return laden with manure. They were proceeding to the South Western Goods Station, when the horse drawing the van knocked down the poor man, Stevens, and the axletree passed over him, doubling him together. He was taken to the Salisbury Infirmary, when it was found that his back was broken, and he died on Friday morning. An inquest was held on his remains the same evening, and a verdict of “Accidental Death,” was returned.
