Carter, Joseph

Carter, Joseph           1868 July 25th          Laverstock

An inquest was held by R M Wilson, Esq., at Laverstock, on the 14th instant on the body of Joseph Carter, aged 69 years. The deceased went to his work (reaping) on the previous morning between three and four o’clock. In the afternoon his wife went to him with his tea, and found him lying on the ground quite dead, and several of his fellow workmen around him. He had not been well for two or three weeks, being very weak and sleepy. Mr Winzar, surgeon, of Salisbury, was of opinion from the evidence of the wife, that deceased had been labouring under congestion of the brain for some days, and which had terminated in apoplexy. Verdict – “Visitation of God.”
